It is a delightful hard bound volume, yet not much bigger than a paperback book. The perfect size for a large pocket or getting a quick references in the shop. Was recommended as a good primer to industrial casting processes. While some of the text isn’t super clear, there are lots of black and white illustrations and diagrams. But my book had two repeat chapters (shown in photo), clearly a printing error.
I was a complete beginner to sand casting. I bought this book, read it fast, got the necessary materials together and built a makeshift furnace in a week, and was turning out sand castings within 3 days after that. The book has a very endearing style, written by an old-hand sand caster who obviously knows what he's doing and imparts information in an entertaining way. I found that that this helped me retain the knowledge I needed. If you want to start sand casting, this is for you. I also bought 2 other paperbacks on sand casting, but found this to be the most useful.
I think this is probably a very good book. I could understand a good part of it. I read it because of my interest in firing clay and glass. I also thought I would maybe find out just what metallic Clay is.If you want to start a foundry or just pour metal in your back yard, I Think this book would be able to help you.
This is a fantastic book for anyone who currently casts metals or just wants to start. Any of the books by C.W. Ammen are pretty much essential to the hobby casting library. Easy to read, as it is written for the layperson.
Good read for the beginner, if you are looking for really technicallook elsewhere.
