I am a fan of Ellsworth, and have read all of Michael Gresham books, “Dead Lawyer In Aisle 11,†is filled with action, and a bit of intrigueYou will want to read this one . While Michael has become a prosecutor in the Attorney General ‘s office in Washington, Ellsworth, shows us the failures, of those in power, as well as a desire to “do the right thing†and fight for Justice. In this book, once again the author shows how much Michael Gresham cares for his family, one of which is an adopted savant. He also deals with corruption of those in power, who transfer blame to him. Without giving away the plot, he calls Marcel , and once again Marcel joins Michael to help investigate and prove Michael innocent of false charges. Pay attention to Michael’s adopted daughter, Annie.“
If you start reading "Dead Lawyer on Aisle 11", you won't put it down. It will be your constant companion until you finish and the real mystery is solved. There are so many twists and turns that keep you guessing as, who is the real killer. I have been a fan of Michel Grisham since I read the first of this series. He is portrayed as a very real person, who is far from perfect and experiences the ins and outs of the legal system, life's problems and situations, plus his love life is not perfect. He has rough sides and very soft sides that make you want to help him solve his problems and guide him in the right direction. This book is just another triumph for John Ellsworth in keeping the readers entertained and intrigued with his genius in delving into today's situations that may of us experience. I strongly recommend this book. Also, I recommend his other series.
I seem to have missed the previous book in the series, so to be fair to the author, I am buying and reading it now. I felt increasingly, however, that books are being rushed out, story-lines and plots not thought through properly, mistakes are slipping through the cracks and the characters are becoming less believable (and likable) A criminal defense attorney fighting for his life against trumped-up charges with his previously crack team gets the dates of his alibi wrong - just not plausible. I stil feel John Ellsworth has stories to tell, I just think he has to spend more time fleshing them out like he did in the beginning. I feel readers are being short changed because the book feels as though it was written with a very short deadline in mind.
When I read my first John Ellsworth novel here on Amazon, I was reading The Defendants, most likely as a free e-book, in August of 2014, but that was the last Ellsworth novel I read for free and for that matter, the last one that I didn't anxiously await amd voraciously read as soon as it was downloaded. I was familiar with Thaddeus Murfee as the protagonist, however, and wasn't terribly comfortable when Mr. Ellsworth changed to, first Christine Susmann's series and then Michael Gresham (probably because I don't deal well with change and because the author has shown no reluctance in killing off main characters as it suits the progression of the story). Michael Gresham has, however, become my favorite character in Ellsworth's repertoire as he is probably the most flawed (human?) and has done the most emotional growing in the series. In this book, Dead Lawyer on Aisle 11, Michael again shows that he is both intuitive and impetuous (with a mind easily muddled by a pretty face and enticing figure) but he is loyal to those he loves, Annie being one of those, and she adds an excellent bookend to Michael, explaining those loose ends and technicalities that he is incapable of explaining with his mere mortal mind. I'm curious to see whether she is actually institutionalized in the next book. The plot pretty much went where I thought it would go, with a few surprised twists and turns, but there were a couple of inexplicably disjointed areas of the book. First of all, when Linda was killed in such a high-profile fashion, why wasn't her first husband, Congressman Peter Chaisson, from whom she was divorced, even mentioned as a possible suspect by the FBI or any of the investigators. He pretty much disappeared after the first chapter, never to be heard of again. Secondly, after Michael's brother moved in with him to recuperate from his latest psychological breakdown, they never explained where he went and why he wouldn't have known that Michael had been not only convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death but already incarcerated when Michael called him. One would think he would know such earth-shattering news before he received a phone call from prison. Other than that I was very pleased with the way Niles Boudreaux got his comeuppance as did the store clerk he paid to perjure herself for him and the fact that Michael finally married Verona in the end and I'm anxiously awaiting the next chapter in their lives. All in all, an excellent read as are all of John Ellsworth books! If he has not usurped Jonathan Kellerman as my favorite author, he is certainly on par with him!
This is another must read book by John Ellsworth. It can be read as a stand alone book but do yourself a favor and start from the beginning with Michael Gresham and really get to know the characters. My only regret is that I read this book in two sittings and didn't take longer to savor it. It was a page turner and kept me reading to see what would occur next. It thought I had figured everything out and then a new twist would appear. I certainly hope John Ellsworth keeps writing this series as well as the Thaddeus Murfree series.
If you're a Michael and Annie fan, you will not bedisappointed. I loved how Ellsworth portrays Annie's unique vision and sass. When Michael is found guilty of first degree murder, the momentum increases until the end! Well, almost the end. Michael is vindicated (Thank God!) And I was left wanting to read the next chapter, which of course, is the next book. I love Michael's inner circle. They're relatable and "feel good" characters. BRAVO!
